Woman Dies after Attempting Breast Augmentation with Vaseline Injection

A 39-year-old woman died a few weeks after she gave herself a Vaseline injection in an attempt to augment her breasts.

Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States. Trained and experienced plastic surgeons offer safe and effective options to help women achieve their breast enhancement goals. The recent news of a 39-year-old athlete who killed herself with a self-administered Vaseline injection to augment her breasts has shocked the nation, especially the plastic surgery fraternity.

According to the report in the Huffington Times, Sonia Perez Llanzon - an athlete, marathon runner and boxer - died a few weeks after she suffered blot clot in her lungs following the self-administered Vaseline injection. She was rushed to the hospital after she developed breathing problems and admitted to her foolhardy act to only later. The Vaseline entered her bloodstream and resulted in blood clots which finally impaired lung function.

It’s strange that a woman should think of attempting such measures when there are many reliable and effective breast augmentation alternatives available today. Women should also be wary of going to bogus practices which would invariably result in a botched up procedure.

Breast implant surgery is performed utilizing saline, silicone gel and novel gummy bear implants. For those who have some extra fat to spare, the plastic surgeon may recommend fat transfer breast enhancement. In the fat transfer method, fat is removed from areas where it is abundant such as the flanks or buttocks and transferred to the breasts to improve volume and contour. Some surgeons perform composite breast augmentation where breast implant surgery is combined with a fat transfer procedure to provide optimal results. With advanced 3D breast imaging technology, women can visualize what the results of their cosmetic breast surgery will look like, which would improve their confidence and help them make an informed decision.
